Terms of service
These terms are the rules for using reads.city. By signing in or using the site, you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use reads.city.
What reads.city is
reads.city is a platform for weekend reading clubs. It lists clubs and their meetups, lets readers check in with the book they are reading, and lets them share books and quotes with their club.
Reading clubs are run by independent organizers. reads.city does not organise, supervise or control their meetups.
Who can use it
You must be 18 or older and able to sign in with a Google account. You are responsible for what happens under your account, so keep your Google account secure.
Meetups
Clubs set their own dates, times and places, and these can change. We try to keep them accurate, but we cannot promise they are. Please check with the club if you are unsure.
You go to meetups at your own risk. We are not responsible for the venue, the weather, other people who attend, or anything that happens at a meetup. Use your own judgement, as you would at any public place.
Lending and borrowing books
reads.city lets readers say which books they can lend and which they want. Any lending or borrowing happens in person between readers. We are not part of it and are not responsible for books that are lost, damaged or not returned.
Your content
You keep ownership of what you add, such as quotes, books and your bio. You give us permission to store it and to show it to other readers in the ways the app is built to, for example showing a quote to your club.
You are responsible for what you add. Do not add anything that:
- is unlawful, hateful, harassing or threatening
- infringes someone else’s rights. When sharing a quote, share a short line, not whole pages of a book
- contains other people’s personal information
- is spam, or is meant to mislead people
We may remove content, or suspend an account, that breaks these rules.
Using the service properly
Do not misuse reads.city. That includes trying to break or overload it, getting around its security, collecting information about other readers with automated tools, or pretending to be someone else.
It is free, and we will always keep it that way
reads.city is free for readers and organizers. There are no fees or subscriptions.
Keeping reads.city free takes real effort. Hosting, the database, development and support all cost money, and those costs tend to grow as more clubs and readers join.
We currently fund these expenses ourselves, and we are glad to. We also welcome crowdfunding and sponsors, because every bit of support makes it easier to keep reads.city free for every reader and club. It is never required, but it is always appreciated.
If you would like to sponsor or donate, please write to [email protected].
Our content
The reads.city name, logo, design and artwork belong to us. Please do not copy or reuse them without asking. You may share links to reads.city pages freely.
No guarantees, and limits on our responsibility
We provide reads.city “as is”. We work to keep it running well, but we cannot promise it will always be available or free of errors.
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss or harm that comes from using reads.city, including from meetups, other readers’ content, or lending of books. Nothing in these terms limits a right you have under law that cannot be limited.
Ending your account
You can stop using reads.city at any time. To delete your account and the information in it, email [email protected]. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms. See the privacy policy for what happens to your information.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. We will change the date at the top of the page, and if the change is significant we will say so on the site. Using reads.city after a change means you accept the new terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of India, and the courts of India will decide any dispute about them.
